There are characters we fall in love with. The perfect mix of actor and writer that breathes magic onto the screen or inside the television.
Known for her interest in unusual cases and haunted by the unsolved murder of her mother, New York City Homicide Detective Kate Beckett strives to give the kind of closure and justice to families of murder victims that she herself has yet to achieve.
Beckett works as a detective for Twelfth Precinct Homicide Squad of the New York City Police Department. Under the leadership of Captain Roy Montgomery (Ruben Santiago-Hudson), and later Captain Victoria Gates (Penny Johnson), Beckett leads a small group of homicide detectives including Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Javier Espisito (Jon Huertas).
When a victim is killed and staged to look like a scene out of one of Beckett's favorite author's novels, the detective brings in author Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) for questioning. Charmed by Beckett, and himself intrigued by the mystery, Castle uses his influence with the Mayor (Derek Webster) to help work the case and become a consultant with the department as he decides to use Beckett as the inspiration behind a new group of novels about a female NYPD detective named Nikki Heat.
Despite her initial reluctance, Beckett soon begins to see how Castle can help her solve cases, and make the daily grind of her difficult job a little more fun. Sure, they have a few dust-ups from time to time, such as when Castle poked his nose into the murder of Beckett's mother without her knowledge, but it's not too long before Kate begins to think of the writer as her partner.
Driven, smart, haunted, ever unwilling to admit her true feelings about her new partner, and exceptionally beautiful, Detective Kate Beckett is played by the stunning Stana Katic who infuses the character with a mix of heart, an offbeat sense of humor, curiosity, and brains that make Beckett one of the most awesome characters on television.
