There are many reasons why I love Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and why it remains my favorite of the Star Trek franchise.
Reason #62: Morn
The highly talkative staple of Quark's (Armin Shimerman) bar Morn may never have uttered a syllable on camera but he was always memorable. Morn's mask was designed so as to allow Mark Allen Shepherd to speak, but despite being given dialogue in a number of episodes over the years poor Morn always found they were cut at the last minute. Morn never spoke a single word throughout all of 92 appearances on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Even if the character never earned a line, he did receive his own episode ("Who Mourns for Morn?") which filled in the character's colorful backstory as a thief who stole 1,000 bricks of gold-pressed latinum and, in the episode, faked his death in order to elude his co-conspirators after the statute of limitations for the crime ran out.
The character's name was an anagram from George Wendt's character on Cheers. And Morn belongs to select group of characters who appear on Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Although a very minor character on the show, Morn's addition was a nice touch (one among many) which added to the unusual nature of Deep Space Nine. And that's why he earns his own spot on this list.
