Five-O is called into investigate when a high school junior is smothered to death in her own bedroom. The dead girl's boyfriend (Blaise Embry) is the first suspect on the list, but when the team learns Emily stole $5,000 from her father (Clayton Norcross) shortly before her death the investigation takes an entirely new direction.
The mystery deepens with the discovery of blackmail scheme run by one of the students (Bryan McClure) and a sex tape of the principal (Christopher Cousins) and Emily's best friend (Courtney Coleman). Throw in a professional hitman, and a jury trial involving a construction worker (Russell Subiono) injured on the job that the Emily's father was serving on up until his daughter's death and you've got plenty of suspects for Five-O to choose from.
Although the hitman flees the island before the team can grab him, the trail leads back to the jury consultant (Sam Anderson) hoping to hide the substandard steel used in the construction of a new office park which could cost the company millions if the truth sees the light of day. The eventual explanation that the death of the girl, and the bribe to replace Emily's father with a ringer, allowed the company to try and steal the jury, is a bit convoluted but works well enough to explain the various stands of the story.
In the episode's B-story the walls start closing in on Joe (Terry O'Quinn) as both the Hawaiian Police and the local Yakuza suspect him for the murder of Hiro Noshimuri (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa). Despite being pressured from all sides Joe has no intention of telling McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) or Adam Noshimuri (Ian Anthony Dale) what really happened to Hiro or how much he really knows about Shellburn.
