This year's Halloween episode gives us a ghost hunter (Philipp Karner) found dead in a haunted house with long history of murder. Since the early 20th Century eight people had been murdered in the the McClaren House. Things get even more interesting when Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) uncover the fact that their ghost hunter, as a child, may have witnessed the most recent murder in the house 20 years earlier.
Secret rooms, hidden passageways, a spurned brother (Mark Harelik), and a second corpse will only deepen the mystery. And, for a first, when the killer is finally revealed neither Castle nor Beckett see it coming.
The episode also gives us a pair of B-stories involves Alexis' (Molly C. Quinn) relationship issues and a couples night out with a double date for Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Jenny (Juliana Dever) and Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Lanie (Tamala Jones). The evening starts out find, but a little wine and one question too many leaves one of the partner's love life on shaky ground. Alexis' long distance relationship with Ashley (Ken Baumann) doesn't seem to be fairing much better.
Not only does "Demons" work as the show's annual Halloween episode, giving plenty of time fro Castle and Beckett to debate the existance of ghosts, but the mystery is one of the best of the season. The episode even gives us Stana Katic quoting the most famous New York ghost hunters of all (which I'll admit to replaying more than once). Adorable.
