Covert Affairs - World Leader Pretend

Annie's (Piper Perabo) by-the-book extraction of a defecting Chinese scientist (Benedict Wong) runs into problems when he starts showing symptoms of radiation poisoning. Taking precautions for herself and her family, Annie comes clean to her sister (Anne Dudek) about the radiation scare and what really does for a living. Let's just say her sister could have taken the news a little better.

Despite being ordered to stay out of the situation by the State Department Annie and Auggie (Christopher Gorham) start their own investigation that lands Annie in hot water with Joan (Kari Matchett) and gets Auggie arrested. The situation does bear fruit, however, as the pair uncover that a close friend (Nelson Lee) of Annie's asset is not only responsible for poisoning him but also mining and illegally moving radioactive material in China.

Despite the State Department's objections, the CIA take the killer down. All that's left for Annie to do is begin fixing bridges with her sister after lying to her for the past two years. The two make up, but its going to take more than a couple days for Danielle to learn to cope with her sister's chosen profession.

I'm a little surprised that the show gave the reveal this early, but it does allow for quite a bit more growth on the Annie/Danielle relationship instead of the basic white lies and cover ups of the week. Danielle's decision for her sister to move out should allow Annie to spread her wings a little more in her personal life as well. It's a strong ending for the show to make going into a hiatus and I'll be looking forward to see Covert Affairs pick back up where they left off later this Fall (when we'll also learn who was on the other end of Jai's phone conversation).
